Jack London

Jack London (January 12, 1876 – November 22, 1916) was an American novelist,  journalist  and social  activist. He was  an  author of over 50 books and about two hundred stories. Jack London was one of the first writers to become a worldwide celebrity and earn a large fortune from writing. His novels “Sea Wolf”, “White Tooth”, “Wild Call”, “Martin Eden” are famous worldwide.

 

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

I do not live for what the world thinks of me, but for what I think of myself.

Life is so short. I would rather sing one song than interpret the thousand.

But I am I. And I won’t subordinate my taste to the unanimous judgment of mankind

True philosophy must start from the most immediate and comprehensive fact of consciousness: ‘I am life that wants to live, in the midst of life that wants to live. 

Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace. 

The greatest discovery of any generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering the attitudes of their minds. 

The only thing of importance, when we depart, will be the traces of love we have left behind. 

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. 

A man does not have to be an angel to be a saint. 

The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others.

The the question whether I am a pessimist or an optimist, I answer that my knowledge is pessimistic, but my willing and hope are optimistic. 

Eventually all things fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know everything happens for a reason!

If you love something so much let it go. If it comes back it was meant to be; if it doesn’t it never was. 

There are two means of refuge from the misery of life — music and cats. 

We are all so much together, but we are all dying of loneliness. 

Happiness is nothing more than good and a bad memory. 

O heavenly Father,protect and bless all things that have breath: guard them from all evil and let them sleep in peace.

Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) was an American writer and journalist.
Hemingway produced most of his work between the mid-1920s and the mid-1950s, and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
Many of his works are considered classics of American literature.
